Cape Town - The husband of a woman who allegedly conned would-be brides out of the money they paid for their wedding dresses, says he found out about her arrest on Facebook.

Stavros Haramis, 27, claims the alleged victims have called him to say they’re going “to break her legs”.

Tuesday was the first time Stavros saw his heavily pregnant wife since her arrest last week.

Ranette Haramis, 33, made a brief appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on fraud charges.

The accused used two Facebook accounts where she posed as a wedding dress seller.

Ranette allegedly “disappears” after payments were made into her bank account.

Outside court, Stavros told the Daily Voice: “I was home when the police came to fetch her.

“They said she would just be taken in for questioning and one of them specifically said they would not keep a pregnant woman in the cells.

“But then they didn’t bring her back. I saw on Facebook that she was taken to prison.

“A week before she was arrested one of her clients’ fiancé called me and said he is going to break her legs,” he adds.

Ranette is back in court next week for a bail application.
