Johannesburg - The man who allegedly fatally shot three-year-old Luke Tibbetts was expected to make a formal bail application in the Newlands Magistrate's Court in Johannesburg on Friday.

The courtroom's public gallery was full ahead of 24-year-old Lindray Khakhu's appearance, but there was little activity outside the court building, with a strong wind chilling the morning air.

Khakhu allegedly fired a shot at Keenan Mokoena, 28, in Westbury during an argument, and Tibbetts is believed to have been hit during the shooting.

Tibbetts was a passenger in a car passing by at the time.

Tibbetts died in hospital on August 8 after being on life support machines.

On August 18, Mokoena was denied bail and was expected back in court on September 3.
