Johannesburg -

A man was arrested for theft in Heidelberg after being caught pushing a refrigerator compressor down the street in a wheelbarrow, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

A policeman on his way to work on Tuesday thought the man was behaving suspiciously and stopped to find out what he was up to, said Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate.

The man could not explain what he was doing in the residential area.

Police thought the wheelbarrow and compressor were stolen and tracked down the owner, who had not even realised they were missing, he said.

The 25-year-old man was also found in possession of dagga wrapped in a newspaper. He would appear soon in the Heidelberg Magistrate's Court. - Sapa
