Wife, alleged hitmen held for murder

Durban - Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested a woman and two alleged hitmen for the murder of the woman’s husband.

Provincial police confirmed that 43-year-old Zakithi Nsibande and Sibusiso Thuzi, 40, and Zamani Mkhize, 38, appeared in the Mtunzini District Court on Thursday for murder and attempted murder and were remanded in custody until December 7 for a bail application.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said that on 14 August 2014 at about 8pm, Sipho Nsibande, 53, and a female victim were in their vehicle at Nsingweni area outside Mtunzini, north of Durban, when they were approached by suspects at gunpoint.

“The suspects opened fire, fatally wounding Nsibande and the woman was seriously injured on her arm and was taken to hospital for medical attention.”

Zwane said a case of murder and attempted murder was opened at Mtunzini police station for investigation.

“After an intensive investigation, Mtunzini detectives were able to locate the whereabouts of the suspects and were arrested on 24 November 2015 in Durban.

“Zakithi who is the deceased’s wife and other suspects were arrested. Mkhize was found with a licensed firearm in his possession. The firearm will be subjected for ballistic testing to establish if it was used in the murder or any other crimes in the province.”
