A Free State woman reported her husband missing after allegedly killing him and locking him away in a storeroom, police said on Thursday.

She was arrested this week, and would appear on a charge of murder in the Welkom Magistrate's Court on Friday, along with her gardener, spokeswoman Sergeant Puleng Motsoeneng said.

Her 37-year-old husband was stabbed, apparently during a domestic dispute on Sunday. Police were investigating the possibility that the husband hit his 30-year-old wife with a pipe before he was killed.

The couple were eating in the bedroom when a fight broke out. Motsoeneng said it appeared the women wrapped the man’s body in a sheet and pulled him to an outside storeroom. Three days later she reported him missing to Welkom police.

When police went to the couple's house this week they found the gardener cleaning blood stains off the pavement. He told them it was the blood of a sheep he had slaughtered.

Motsoeneng said police searched the house but found nothing. A policeman noticed blood stains on the rubbish bin next to a storeroom. The man's body was found when the room was searched. He had a stab wound to the neck, and burns on one hand. - Sapa
