Johannesburg - A Centurion woman was arrested on Monday after she was caught driving at 207km/h, with a baby in her car, Gauteng traffic police said.

Spokeswoman Busaphi Nxumalo said the 22-year-old hairdresser was driving a BMW on the R21 when she was pulled over.

“After stopping the vehicle and informing the lady of the reason for stopping (her) ... she immediately blamed a sick baby in the car as her reason for speeding.

“Upon investigation by the (police) members, the baby appeared to be fine, (and) only when the mother removed the dummy, the child started to cry.”

The woman was charged with reckless or negligent driving, with an alternative charge of exceeding the general speed limit.

She was released on R1000 bail. - Sapa
