A woman and her two children were killed when they stood in front of an oncoming train outside Eerste River on Tuesday morning, Metrorail said.
“They stood right in the middle of the track and we suspect it may have been suicide,” regional manager Lindelo Matya said.
“It is suspicious that it happened at 5am when it's slightly dark and in an area that people don't normally cross.”
He said trains bound for Strand were affected, as they had to be re-routed to one line.

This is so extremely sad and I am willing to bet that she was tired of living in poverty and unable to provide sufficient for her children. One must be totally desperate to do such a thing. Just a fifth of the cost of one of a Cabinet Minsters cars could have made such a difference to this woman's life and her childrens, and who knows may be her children could have become doctors, nurses or teaches, which this country needs, unfortunately we will never know. Do you think the of the day government cares, not a damn as long as they stuffing their pockets, living the bling lifestyle and prey on the poor's vote when it is election time. All three are now in a better place, than this hell hole of a country.

My first reaction on hearing this on the news this morning, "must life first be lost before we sit up and pay attention," so many people are desperate, to the extend that they would prefer to die, as society at large we are failing each other and our government systems in this country are inadequate allowing people to fall through the cracks. All of a sudden social development dept. wants to investigate, a bit too late what about the others in pain. Please reach out to another, I am seriously gonna try. MAY THEIR SOULS REST IN PEACE

This is so sad! The mother must have been in a really hopeless position to do this. She could have been like other mothers who do not care and run amok with men and neglect their kids. Clearly she loved them dearly because she took them with her and probably did not want to leave them in this cruel world!

You could not have said it better Alex, it is sad that she felt she had NO one to turn to, that she felt the only way out is to take the life of her own and children. I know as a mother we worry about our children everyday, she maybe just thought that what would happen to them if she was not there. I pray that God wil keep their families, guide through this painfulle time

I cant fathom people making these choices for their kids. If u want to kill yourself go ahead, but please dont make tahht decision for ur kids. As much u borne them they have their own rights!

If the mother wanted to die then she should of just killed herself and not take innocent lives with her. Those kids had a future ahead of them but look where it ended up. The devil can really play with peoples minds. God bless to the family of the mother and two kids and may their souls rest in peace

There are allot of men and women really hurting out there with divorce etc. I know it is very hard as I am going through this at the moment. I have two kids and everytime I look at them I know I must go on to make a better life for us. To all the spouses out there that are having problems with their wives or hushands please think before you are rude and nasty to your spouse. People deal with stress and depression differently. One thing to all the people out there thinking God loves you and your life is worth allot more. Talk about your problems it helps.

Well said Alex.None of us haveany idea what was going through this mothers mind.She possibly thought her life and circumstances were hopeless and the only way out was to end her life and that of her 2 children.People,dont talk ill of her.You dont know what thje circumstances were for her to have done this terrible thing.I too,say exactly what Alex says.A prayer for the departed.Do not judge lest you be judged.God bless their souls

it is a terrible terrible loss of life and it is deeply saddening that she had no alternative. the world can be a cruel place. people will judge her for what she had done, but is it our place to point fingers at her. instead pointing that finger, pray for her family, pray for her loved ones in mourning and also pray for her soul and those of the children. may the souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace and rise again in glory. amen give rest o God, to the souls of these your servants, and may they find peace in your eternal kingdom. amen
