Residents of a quiet Cape suburb are reeling in shock after a woman allegedly committed suicide in a stranger’s garden.
Police were called to a house in Wolmarans Street, Southfield, shortly after 7am on Monday morning after a woman was found hanging from a security gate.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer November Filander says cops are investigating the woman’s death but do not suspect foul play.
He says the woman was dressed in a plastic, maroon raincoat and while searching the property, cops found her bag.
There was a Chinese meat cleaver with insignia in the bag.
“She had no visible injuries and no foul play is suspected,” Filander told the Daily Voice.
“We opened an inquest docket to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.”
The owner of the house where the body was found says she can’t get the image out of her head.
“Please, I don’t want to talk about it because I don’t want to remember what I saw,” she said.
Her neighbour, who asked not to be named, said the incident has left everybody traumatised.
“This is a quiet area and we can’t believe that something like this has happened,” said the woman.
“It is school holidays and the children are too scared to go outside because of this.”
