Durban - A 27-year-old woman was arrested in Phoenix, Durban, for alleged possession of heroin on Tuesday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Captain Thulani Zwane said police had been observing a known drug den in Phoenix when they saw the woman on Amblen Road.

“They approached her and upon questioning her she voluntarily handed over a clear rolled plastic (bag) containing 200 straws of heroin.”

He said it was worth about R8000 on the street.

Provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Mmamonye Ngobeni warned drug dealers in the area: “We know who you are and we are coming to get you. Do not think if you give the community handouts they are going to protect you from the law.”

The woman was expected to appear in court soon. - Sapa
