A North West woman has been arrested for killing her husband and daughter, police said on Sunday.

The woman, 67, was arrested on Saturday after she confessed to the murders, said police spokeswoman Captain Tselane Nkala.

She had reported her 17-year-old daughter's disappearance in 2009, and her husband had been missing since May last year.

He was 61 at the time.

Police were alerted after the husband's family came searching for him, said Nkala.

The woman had told his family she had buried him.

The bones, believed to be those of the missing man and teenager, were found buried in her yard.

Police said the woman was due to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before she can appear in court. - Sapa
