Cape Town - A woman was arrested for illegal possession of perlemoen worth nearly R7000 in Hermanus, Western Cape police said.

“(Police) swooped down on the house situated in Chester Road where they found a 26-year-old female inside with 68 bags of frozen (perlemoen),” Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana said.

“After (it) was defrosted it was counted to R6941.”

The woman was expected to appear in the Hermanus Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Kinana said while police were loading the perlemoen into their vehicles residents started throwing stones at them and blocked the R43 with burning tyres.

A case of public violence had also been opened. - Sapa
