Woman killed in front of her daughtersComment on this story
Johannesburg - A man has been arrested for allegedly killing the owner of a shop in Kempton Park, east of Johannesburg, in front of her children at the weekend, Gauteng police said on Monday.
The man, 25, was believed to be a former employee at Annemarie van Zyl's shop in Newton Street, Captain Jethro Mtshali said.
He allegedly entered the shop around 7.30am on Saturday morning, withdrew a sharp instrument, and stabbed the woman several times.
He then walked out of the shop with an undisclosed amount of money, Mtshali said.
The woman's daughters, aged six and eight, were at the shop during the incident.
The eight-year-old girl called out for help shortly after the man left the shop.
“Fortunately, police were patrolling near the scene of the crime and saw the man… He was arrested,” Mtshali said. His hands were allegedly covered in blood.
The man was expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of business robbery and murder.
The children were still traumatised and would receive counselling, Mtshali said. - Sapa
