Johannesburg - A woman who died after being stabbed multiple times in Bryanston in northern Johannesburg has not been identified, Gauteng police said on Monday.

“The woman is unknown to police. We don't have her identity as of yet, and we are appealing to the community for information,” Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said.

“On Saturday, she was seen by a passer-by who alerted paramedics and the paramedics responded and treated her and took her to the nearest hospital where she died.”

He said a case of murder had been opened and police were investigating. No arrests had been made.

The woman was found around 5pm on Saturday, Mofokeng said.

On Sunday, ER24 spokeswoman Werner Vermaak said the woman, believed to be in her late thirties, died after being stabbed about 50 times.

“It is understood that another woman and her child were driving along Peter Place when the child noticed [the woman] lying near a boom gate at an office park,” Vermaak said in a statement.

“Paramedics found the injured woman barely responsive and breathing. Paramedics indicated that she [the victim] lost a vast amount of blood and counted approximately 50 stab wounds on her body.”

Vermaak said the woman was rushed to the Mediclinic Sandton for further care where she died.

Beeld newspaper reported that she told the woman who had stopped to help her that it was her husband who had stabbed her. - Sapa
