Bredasdorp - Women's Minister Lulu Xingwana will attend the appearance of two men accused of the rape and murder of Anene Booysen in the Bredasdorp Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

“The minister has reiterated her call that those responsible for this brutality must receive the harshest and heaviest (punishment) possible from our courts,” her spokesman Cornelius Monama said in a statement.

Xingwana called on the public to help combat crimes against women and children.

Booysen, 17, was found raped and disembowelled at a construction site in Bredasdorp on February 2. She died from her injuries in hospital.

Three men were arrested in connection with the crime. One was later released due to lack of evidence against him. - Sapa
