Johannesburg - A Soweto youth implicated in the alleged rape of a 16-year-old mentally ill boy was released by the Protea Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The case had not been put on the court roll and the 19-year-old accused was released without a bail application, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

“What the court decided was that it needed to hold a consultation (with an expert) on February 7. The court needs to verify the claims of the mentally disabled boy before the proceedings can continue.”

The 19-year-old was arrested in Zola on Monday after the boy alleged that he took him to the Jabulani cemetery, where he raped him on Sunday afternoon. The boy told his mother, and the 19-year-old was arrested. - Sapa
