Ottosdal - A youth was arrested for allegedly shooting dead his brother by accident at Witpoort farm, near Ottosdal, North West police said on Tuesday.
The 17-year-old boy, who shot his 21-year-old brother on Monday, was believed to be using his father's rifle to hunt warthogs, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.
“They were allegedly kneeling down and aiming at a warthog when the 21-year-old brother suddenly stood up,” Mokgwabone said.
“It is apparent that the minor, unaware that his brother was standing up, fired a shot, and the bullet allegedly hit the victim in the head.”
A case of murder and a case of negligent handling of a firearm were opened.
The boy was expected to undergo assessment by a social worker.
