Johannesburg - An 18-year-old teenager accused of raping a 12-year-old boy appeared in the Protea Magistrate's Court, in Soweto, on Thursday, police said.

Constable Sibusiso Chauke said the matter was postponed to January 21 and that the youth would remain in custody.

He was arrested in Meadowlands on Wednesday.

Chauke said he was the boy's neighbour and that the boy went to watch television at his house on Tuesday night.

He asked the boy to accompany him to the toilet, where he raped him. His sister walked in on them and called her brother.

“He wanted to assault them and the victim screamed and his uncle went to the neighbour's house to check what was happening to his nephew.”

The uncle took his nephew to the police to report the incident.
