President Jacob Zuma has been presented with a list of nominees for the vacant judge's position in the Constitutional Court, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) said on Tuesday.
Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng presented the list of names to Zuma on Monday following interviews with four candidates on Saturday, it said in a statement.
Judges Lebotsang Bosielo, Mandisa Maya, Robert Nugent and Raymond Zondo were those listed for the vacancy.
“Section 174 of the Constitution provides that the President... appoint judges of the Constitutional Court after consulting the Chief Justice and the leaders of the parties represented in the National Assembly, from a list of nominees prepared by the JSC.”
In terms of the Constitution, Zuma must notify the JSC if he finds any of the nominees unacceptable and motivate his reasons for this. – Sapa
