Pretoria -

A man who claimed to have details of a conspiracy to assassinate President Jacob Zuma has been referred for psychiatric observation at Weskoppies Hospital.

Ernst Nkosi, 26, appeared briefly in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The State prosecutor requested the matter be postponed to another date until a bed could be found for him at Weskoppies.

Nkosi is to be charged with contravening Section 26(1) (a) of the Intelligence Services Act after he allegedly impersonated a State Security Agency official, and fraud for using a cellphone number RICA’d under another person’s name.

He is said to have circulated an e-mail to the minister of police, spokesperson of the Gauteng government, the crime intelligence divisional commissioner and BMW South Africa, claiming that high ranking officials and politicians wanted to assassinate the president.

The e-mail was said to have alleged that a vehicle seat had been poisoned, aimed at harming Zuma.

He is alleged to have claimed that the SAPS VIP protection unit, Hawks members, ministers and MPs were involved in the plot.

The accused will be back in court on March 28.
