Residents are living in fear of an evil curse after they found rotting animal skins hanging from a road sign.

The unidentified animal skins can be seen hanging from a Philippi road sign near a park.

Now locals say they are too scared to go to the park because they don’t understand if the pelts are for good or evil purposes.

Residents say they noticed the animal skins three months ago and believe they were left there by a sangoma with evil intentions.

Thembekile Khuthuka, 49, tells the Daily Voice that no one goes to the park just off Lansdowne Road anymore.

“The park is used by families to cool off but the skins are chasing everyone away,” he says.

“People fear getting close to the road sign because we don’t know the sangoma who dumped these skins here.”

And no one will remove them because they fear something bad will happen.

“Maybe the sangoma is bewitching someone or a motorist who should die on this road,” he says.

A woman who runs a tavern metres from where the skins are displayed says her customers always tease her about them.

“At first they used to say I put them up to lure customers,” she jokes.
