Police find body lying in street

Goodwood police opened a case of culpable homicide after an unidentified man was found dead along Jakes Gerwel Drive between the railway bridge and traffic light, on Saturday July 29, at 8pm.

Police are looking for leads after Gophers Pub in Voortrekker Road was robbed of more than R50 000 on Saturday July 29, at 10.30am.

Lieutenant Colonel Rademeyer said two men had held the manager, workers and patrons up at gunpoint.

“They took R50 000 in cash and stole two cellphones from patrons.”

If you have any information about this incident, call Warrant Officer Henry Hendricks on 021 597 1760.

Parow police spokesman Captain Kevin Williams has warned of a spike in vehicle thefts in the area.

“Thieves are also stealing motorbikes. I also want to urge residents to be vigilant when they are in the vicinity of Parow, Tygerberg and Avondale train stations.”

He urged pedestrians not to walk with their cellphones; to walk in groups and not to resist when criminals demanded their valuables.
