Pretoria - More than two-thirds of the ANC's branches have held their branch general meetings (BMGs) ahead of their provincial nomination conferences, the party said on Friday.

“The NEC (national executive committee) decided the last day (for nominations) is November 30,” spokesman Jackson Mthembu told reporters on the side-lines of the ANC's NEC meeting in Centurion.

“We have more than 70 percent of the branches that are finished and we want the other 30 (percent) to get there.”

All African National Congress branches in good standing are holding meetings to nominate their preferred candidates for the party's top six positions and the NEC.

They will then take their nominations to their provincial nomination conference.

This is in preparation for the party's national elective conference in Mangaung next month.

The NEC is holding its meeting at St George Hotel in Irene.

This is the last meeting of the NEC elected at Polokwane in 2007.

Mthembu said President Jacob Zuma presented the political report earlier in the day.

“The president raised many organisational issues - the strengths and weaknesses of the ANC,” he said.

Zuma also spoke about discipline in the party.

Mthembu said the NEC would start discussing the organisational report and sign-off on it.

Other reports to be discussed are the 2011 Census and Nkosazana
