Johannesburg - Agang SA's national and provincial lists of candidates for the upcoming general election formed a “strong anti-corruption team,” leader Mamphela Ramphele said on Wednesday.
“Our candidates believe in a clean, competent government, with zero tolerance towards corruption,” she told reporters in Johannesburg.
Forensic investigator Paul O'Sullivan, described by Ramphele as “Mr Anti-corruption”, had made the party's parliamentary list.
“He (O'Sullivan) would converse about serious issues in Parliament and not small, side issues,” she said.
She said some of the candidates defected from other political parties as they believed that Agang offered the “best, pragmatic solutions for South Africa.
“Our policies are attainable and achievable to all people, including those that belong to different races and cultures,” she said.
“White people should no longer feel like spectators, who fear being critical because they will be regarded as racist.”
She said the party believed in empowerment and urged people to “believe in their own worth and power of influence”.
The role of the government should be to create jobs, to create an environment that was conducive to job creation.
“We believe that more money should be used for skills development and barriers should be removed to allow people to create their own job opportunities.”
Agang submitted its candidate lists to the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) last Wednesday.
The party's chief operating officer Andrew Gasnolar said at the time that the party was contesting the elections nationally and in seven provinces.
The party would not contest in KwaZulu-Natal and Northern Cape.
“We are aligned to our structures and decided to only register where we have done real work,” he said.
