Durban – The African National Congress (ANC) is hoping to draw more than 40 000 supporters to its KwaZulu-Natal provincial rally to celebrate the party's 105th birthday.

The ANC's provincial secretary Super Zuma said that the rally, which will be held in KwaDukuza (Stanger) on Sunday, said: "More than 40 000 people are expected to attend the rally and [it] will be used to communicate policy propositions for the upcoming policy conference as the ANC wants to deal with issues of land and advance radical economic transformation."

Speaking at a press conference in Durban, Zuma said he could not reveal too many details of what would be announced, but that the celebrations would be led by provincial chairperson Sihle Zikalala.

National treasurer Zweli Mkhize was also expected to be attending, he said.

Zuma said the rally would be a continuance of the ANC's campaign against "monopoly capital".

"We understand that as we continue with our cause to grab monopoly capital by the horns, we acknowledge that some members of the ANC will be casualties."

He said that the wealth of the province was sitting in the hands of too few.

Referring to the succession debate, he said that the ANC would be engaging with the ANC Youth League over its pronouncements that Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma should be the next president of the party.

"We are a political organisation. Some times you have to educate people politically," Zuma said.
