ANC confident of Gauteng poll winComment on this story
Johannesburg - The ANC will win Gauteng with a decisive majority in this year's elections, it said on Thursday.
“Through direct interaction with voters and communities, we know that the overwhelming majority of the people of our province deeply appreciate the reality that Gauteng is now a much better province in which to live,” provincial secretary David Makhura said in a statement.
“We know that the people want our country and province to move forward with radical social and economic transformation.”
He said only the African National Congress had a track record to improve the country and Gauteng.
He called on members of the ANC, the SA Communist Party, the Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) and the SA National Civic Organisation (Sanco) to be disciplined ahead of the national election.
“We reiterate that any member of the structures of the alliance who participates in disruption of meetings shall face disciplinary action.”
He said members had to respect the right of other parties to campaign freely.
The Gauteng ANC would launch its election manifesto in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, on Sunday.
“There is a huge excitement and high morale among our supporters across the province. More than 500 buses will bring 35,000 people to pack the stadium,” he said.
Volunteers would take the manifesto to Gauteng residents in townships, informal settlements, suburbs, farms, and peri-urban areas.
