The ANC in the Eastern Cape is to launch a book to educate people about the province's history and contribution to the liberation struggle, the party said on Monday.

“The book... is aimed at educating more South Africans, especially the youth, about the role of the Eastern Cape in the liberation struggle,” the African National Congress in the province said in a statement.

The 106-page publication, titled 'Umbutho Wesizwe' (Party For The Nation), contains profiles of people from Eastern Cape who contributed to the struggle.

They included Vuyisile Mini, King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo, Walter Rhubusana, Mesach Pelem, Cannon Reverend James Calata, Walter Sisulu, Florence Matomela, Nelson Mandela, Oliver Tambo and many others.

The book would be launched at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday.

It will sell for R200 and people interested in buying the book were urged to contact the party's offices at Cannon James Calata House. - Sapa
