The ANC in the Free State will hold its provincial conference this weekend, provincial ANC spokesman William Bulwana said on Wednesday.

The conference would run from Friday to Sunday in Parys in the northern Free State.

This would happen despite two of the five provincial regions not having held their regional conferences yet.

Bulwana said earlier the party was considering different options to get the provincial conference off the ground. The event had been postponed three times since last month.

The two regional conferences that did take place - at Fezile Dabi and Lejweleputswa - were held amid claims that structures were being manipulated.

ANC members from the Free State protested outside party headquarters Luthuli House in Johannesburg earlier this month, urging party leaders to solve grievances in their province.

Free State ANC chairman Ace Magashule is expected to be challenged for the post by former economic development MEC and party treasurer Mxolisi Dukwana.

Dukwana was fired from the provincial executive in a provincial cabinet reshuffle in February. - Sapa
