Durban - The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal was humbled by the confidence of Greytown residents after they voted for the party's candidate in by-elections, the party said on Thursday.

“We are humbled by the confidence that has been bestowed on the ANC by people of Greytown who have overwhelmingly voted (for) the party,” said spokesman Bongani Shisa Tembe in a statement.

He said residents had again entrusted the party with the responsibility to champion service delivery.

“The African National Congress overwhelmingly retained ward two of Umvoti Municipality during a hotly contested by-election yesterday (Wednesday).”

Tembe said of the 2780 people who voted, 1739 voted for the ruling party.

The ward, which will be led by Lunga Obert Mdlalose, became vacant when the previous councillor resigned.

The party also retained ward 27 in Tshwane, which became vacant as a result of the imprisonment of the councillor. Mokgadi Maria Rallele would be its new councillor.
