Johannesburg - The DA's statement that it will take over Gauteng after the elections is a pipe dream, the ANC in the province said on Tuesday.
“The DA fails to run Western Cape and Midvaal. It is unimaginative of the DA to take over Gauteng,” spokesman Dumisa Ntuli said in a statement.
“The truth is there for everyone to see that the DA government is not delivering where they are in power.”
He claimed that in the Midvaal municipality in Gauteng, and the Western Cape, development and service delivery were purely for white suburbs and many black areas were neglected.
The Democratic Alliance's development policies were based on “a criminal racist agenda”, Ntuli said.
On Monday, the DA's Gauteng premier candidate Mmusi Maimane said his party's polling showed that the African National Congress's support could drop to less than 50 percent in the province. He said President Jacob Zuma was the main reason for this decline.
“In 2014 we can choose the path of change and jobs, or we can choose five more years of the same from Zuma's ANC,” said Maimane.
“As premier, I will make jobs my top priority, stop corruption in government and fight against the unjust taxation of Gauteng residents through e-tolling.”
Ntuli said the ANC's ability to keep controlling Gauteng remained unshaken because the party had maintained credibility, service delivery and good governance.
“The DA's tired scorecard script is used as propaganda to profile the party. The scorecard is laced with a heavy dose of mendacity and political sterility,” he said.
