Johannesburg - The African National Congress lied to the nation about booking Makhulong stadium ahead of the EFF, Dali Mpofu said on Saturday.

“We were told that we can't use Makhulong stadium because it is for soccer,” he told Economic Freedom Fighters supporters in Tembisa, east of Johannesburg.

“That was in January.”

Thousands of people had gathered at the Mehlareng stadium for the launch of the party's elections manifesto launch.

The ANC Youth League was hosting an election festival at the Makhulong stadium, a few kilometres from Mehlareng stadium.

Mpofu, dressed in a red jumpsuit and EFF beret, said if the African National Congress could lie about a stadium, how could they be trusted to create jobs.

Earlier, the stadium erupted with applause when EFF leader Julius Malema arrived for the party's manifesto launch.

The crowd dressed in red EFF T-shirts and berets chanted “Juju Juju”.

They sang “he is going to Parliament, make way for him”.

The stadium was packed to capacity with some people standing on the pitch in front of the stage.

Umbrellas, posters and banners were hoisted high in the air. Some were walking around with a coffin made out of boxes to symbolise the burying or other parties.
