Cape Town - DA leader Helen Zille has alleged that Grant Pascoe was offered over R1 million and a car to join the ANC.

Pascoe left the DA and his job as Cape Town City Council’s mayoral committee member for tourism, events and marketing on Monday when he joined the ANC.

ANC provincial chairman Marius Fransman said Zille’s allegations were blatant lies and were libellous.

Zille alleged that the ANC had approached several people within the DA in the Western Cape. “One of them, who was approached by Marius Fransman, told me this afternoon that he was offered a job at R880 000 per year with R200 000 ‘up front’ to cross to the ANC,” she said.

Zille said the DA member rejected it. “Grant Pascoe was offered over R1m and a car. Grant accepted the offer.”

She said Fransman’s opening gambit to people he approached were that they were “not sufficiently valued” by the DA and that the ANC would value them more.

“Then the financial offers are made,” she said.

Fransman said Zille was lying as she was in a panic. “She is losing support and people are leaving the DA because she is nothing but a dictator,” he said.

He said the ANC would take legal action against her.

Pascoe said he didn’t know what to do with another car and denied he was offered R1m. “I’m not that cheap.”
