The media is the main opposition ahead of the upcoming local elections, the ANC said on Tuesday.
“We must realise that in this elections the main opposition is the media. Leave the DA, leave Cope... we will work very hard against that strong opposition,” ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said at a briefing at Luthuli House in Johannesburg.
Mantashe illustrated this through examples such as the story about the plot to oust President Jacob Zuma, the recycling of the story of white resident associations and the misrepresentation of comments made by ANC Youth League president Julius Malema about Zuma.

The ANC's main opposition is the ANC members themselves, especially those who do not work for government. Even those who serve in the public sector speak ill about the leadership. Isn't it laughable how they (ANC) will always try to find a scape goat for their failings? In this case they choose the media. You create your own opposition when you are corrupt, incompetent, morally bankrupt, unable to deliver services at local and provincial level - to name but a few. With the calibre of the leadership who needs opposition? You oppose and sabotage each other all the time. Yet the ANC remains in denial stating that there's no infighting, no greedy ambitious comrades, no problems - blind leading the blind, yet they can all see the media reporting as faulty. Sies man, geen skaamte.

I agree with the dis honourable mr Mamparra. The media is exposing all the atrocities and skelmstreke that the ANC have been committing, and therefore they are the enemy! Haha! It's biting them in the backside. They thought that they can say and do what they want, without the rest of the country hearing about it. Now that their crass stupidity and racist utterances have been made public, suddenly the press is the enemy. Viva press freedom!

Welcome to the free world. The market dictates. The ANC are the ones giving the media all the ammo. Our media do not even have to grovel to get juicy stories - it explodes in our face every day.

Agree with you Mantashe. Why did you guys not bring in that law to create a media tribunal and hold the media responsible. It's too late now because the media is going to make sure that you lose big time in this local election. I propose that you obtain a interdict against the media for interfering in the political process of the country. After all the media has not been elected by anyone to set the country's agenda.
