ANC members queued to get into Gallagher Estate on the second day of the party's national conference on Wednesday.
There was no repetition of Tuesday's singing as delegates set to work.
They would spend the first half of the second day in commissions discussing strategy and tactics, the second transition, and organisational renewal.
After lunch, members would split into 11 commissions to discuss the ANC's other policy documents.
On Tuesday, President Jacob Zuma, who is also the ANC's leader, said the party needed a radical shift in policy to address poverty, unemployment and inequality.
The “second transition” had to focus on social and economic transformation in the next 30 to 50 years, he told about 3500
delegates.
He reassured South Africans that the plight of those without land would be addressed without changing the Constitution.
In the lead-up to the conference, there had been calls for a change to section 25 of the Constitution, which refers to property rights, and sets out conditions for the expropriation of land with compensation.
Zuma said the real economy was still mainly in the hands of white men, and that this needed to be addressed soon.
