The ANC's national executive committee raised concerns over leaks of confidential information from its meetings, secretary-general Gwede Mantashe said on Monday.
“This tendency was strongly criticised as it reduced national leaders of the ANC to being sources of journalists,” he told reporters in Johannesburg during a post NEC briefing.
“You become faceless... it's damning.”
Mantashe said the African National Congress needed to “understand” who these sources were and do everything it could to “discourage this tendency”.
The ANC held its four-day NEC meeting in Mangaung (Bloemfontein) at the weekend. It was its last NEC meeting for the year.
Mantashe said the meeting focused on the party's centenary celebrations next year, completing organisational issues and the ANC's national policy conference. The latter was scheduled to take place from June 26 to 28, 2012 at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.
“The plans are firmly underway,” he said.
Draft policy documents were presented and NEC sub-committees were asked to refine them. The committees were told to analyse existing policies, identify weaknesses in implementation and make policy proposals where there were gaps.
Mantashe said the NEC would hold a five-day meeting in January to finalise all policy proposals. These would be consolidated into one document. This would be circulated to the ANC branches by the end of January for discussion.
The NEC meeting also discussed the ANC's campaign to reach one million members.
“We are convinced that we have reached our target and we may have even exceeded it,” said Mantashe.
He said a final audit was currently underway. Another audit would be done mid 2012.
“The audit has given us a more honest picture,” said Mantashe.
Asked about Julius Malema, Mantashe said the NEC had discussed the suspended ANC Youth League leader. - Sapa

Leaks will continue and get worse as long as you are trying to hide information which belongs in the public domain.

Again with the "tendencies". The ANCorrupt really love the use fo this word. It seem to encapsulate everything that they are accusing everyone of. The problem is that amongst this gang, den of thieves etc, whatever you want to call them. There is a lack of intelligence (the clever kind), and finesse. they are not qualified to run South Africa. So until this mouldy lot are ready to retire we, the South African people are stuck with them. You get what you vote for, A bunch of neurotic imbeciles.

Mantashe, what exactly are the ANC trying so hard to hide from the public? The ANC is the most corrupt political party in South Africa, yet your elite continue with brazen acts of self-enrichment, nepotism, and cadre deployment. Anything done in the shadows will see the light of day, and will be exposed. It is a natural law of the universe. Even the ANCestors must be disappointed in the behaviour of their children. No-one is "faceless" now that we have FACEBOOK. The truth shall out, and be damned with lies, theft, and sneaky, underhand wheeling and dealing. So grow up, and realise that even Eugene Terreblanche's underwear was exposed in the media, not once, but twice. Do you really believe that the grubby Protection of Information Act is going to hide the truth from us? Dream on.

Get used to it Gwede. When your secrecy bill is enacted even the journalists will be faceless. And posting on overseas servers that you have no jurisdiction over while the local press reports on flower shows and how pretty Zuma's latest wife is.
