Kimberley - Two ANC party agents from the Frances Baard Region in the Dikgatlong sub-region, were killed in a motor vehicle accident while they were travelling to the Blikfontein polling station on Wednesday.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the police were investigating a case of culpable homicide.

“The incident occurred at about 6.45am where four ANC party agents were travelling on the Koopmansfontein/Blikfontein gravel road.

“Two occupants were fatally injured while another was critically injured. The driver of the vehicle escaped unscathed. It is alleged that the front tyre of the bakkie burst, causing the vehicle to overturn.”

She added that the injured person was taken to the Barkly West Hospital for treatment. Identity of the deceased persons is withheld until next of kin is informed.

ANC spokeswoman, Keitumetse Mathiba, said the driver apparently lost control over the vehicle due to burst tyre.

“This unfortunate incident took place while these comrades were on duty to ensure that the ANC was trying to attain a 70 percent victory in the Northern Cape. We salute them for their commitment to the agenda of liberating our people from inequality, poverty and under development.”

She extended condolences to the families of the two cadres.
