Cape Town - The African National Congress in the Western Cape has suspended ward councillor Siseko Mabidiza - ward 101 in the Kraaifontein area of the Cape Town metro - for allegedly neglecting his duties.

The ANC would no longer tolerate councillors who failed to lead issues troubling their communities, ANC Cape metro regional secretary JJ Tyhalisisu said in a statement on Saturday.

“Over the past three months, the ANC has intensified its engagement with councillor Siseko over a variety of issues, and the councillor has shown no concern and no desire to turn things around and begin to put the community he purports to serve at the top of his agenda.

“The ANC has long been concerned about [the] fact that councillor Siseko works full-time as a banker, with hardly any time for community issues and cannot possibly react immediately to the community concerns, as he is always locked into his full-time job.

“Throughout all our engagements with councillor Siseko, he has been dismissive and and defiant, despite leading an ANC stronghold ward, making the ANC out of touch with our people and losing our support base. He is therefore suspended with immediate effect,” Tyhalisisu said.
