North West - The North West ANC said on Tuesday it will call for a motion of no confidence against the DA's Tlokwe municipality mayor Annette Combrink.

“Maphetle (Maphetle) will be reinstated the same way that he was removed, through a motion of no confidence on the present mayor,” spokesman Kenny Morolong said.

In November last year, warring African National Congress factions passed a motion of no confidence in ANC mayor Maphetle Maphetle. He was replaced by the Democratic Alliance's Combrink.

At the time, the ANC said it hoped Combrink's appointment could be declared invalid, as she had accepted her nomination via SMS.

The ANC's provincial executive committee met on Monday and councillors “unreservedly” committed themselves to have Maphetle reinstated.

“The PEC is content with the strides made through this meeting which in our view will culminate in the restoration of confidence of the people of Tlokwe in the ANC.”

The motion would be tabled before the end of February. - Sapa
