Johannesburg - The ANC's Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans' Association (MKMVA) national chairman Kebby Maphatsoe has retained his position, a spokesman said on Saturday.
The MKMVA, which was holding its national conference, elected Teenage Monama as national deputy chairman, Dumisane Ntuli as general secretary, Simphiwe Phaka deputy general secretary and Desmond Stevens as treasurer general, Mangaliso Khonza said in a statement.
Twenty-three national executive committee members, which included the top five, were also elected.
The MKMVA's national elective conference was being held at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg this weekend.
Khonza said the conference would focus on strengthening the MKMVA, unity and renewal of the African National Congress and the alliance as well as the strengthening and defending of the ANC.
On Friday, President Jacob Zuma, who is also the party's leader, addressed the conference.
SA Communist Party general secretary Blade Nzimande, ANC Youth League deputy president Ronald Lamola and the SA Students Congress president Ngoako Selamolela also addressed the conference.
The Congress of SA Trade Unions president Sidumo Dlamini would address them on Sunday. - Sapa
