ANC welcomes two DA defectorsComment on this story
Johannesburg - The ANC welcomed two councillors from the DA in central Johannesburg on Wednesday morning, before violence halted a march by the opposition party.
The councillors were introduced as ANC members ahead of the Democratic Alliance's march for “real jobs” to Beyers Naude Square.
They told thousands of ANC supporters gathered in front of ANC headquarters Luthuli House that they left the party due to the oppression of blacks.
“I left because of a clash of ideas. I saw that my dignity was being sold because I was agreeing to oppressing blacks,” one councillor said.
The DA is marching to demand real jobs.
ANC treasurer general Zweli Mkhize said they did not have a problem with political parties marching but had one with being provoked.
“You can't come to Luthuli House and provoke us. We don't want political parties marching to one another's offices,” said Mkhize.
