Pretoria - Several police units were in Hammanskraal on Tuesday morning ahead of African National Congress President Jacob Zuma’s campaign stop in the Pretoria area.

After 11am, numerous members of the elite tactical response team and the flying squad stood near a a makeshift platform on a huge ANC branded truck from which party music was blaring.

A member of the presidential protection services and his dog did a sweep of the platform and left other officers constantly guarding the entrance to the stage.

Zuma and his entourage are also expected to visit Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria.

Extensive violence was unleashed across Pretoria last month as news filtered in indicating that former cabinet minister, Thoko Didiza, would be named as the city’s mayoral candidate for the ANC, replacing the popular incumbent Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa.

Protesting residents said they were not happy with Didiza and wanted Ramokgopa to remain in his position.
