Johannesburg – The African National Women’s League is to host an inter-faith prayer event in Pretoria on Saturday for free and fair local government elections.

The ANCWL said the inter-faith service would also be used to endorse the ANC manifesto which was launched in Port Elizabeth recently.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the ANCWL said the event at the Union Buildings in Pretoria would be attended by civil society organisations, inter-faith organisations, government leaders, business leaders, youth formations, LGBTIs, artists and ANC supporters.

“As the ANCWL, we acknowledge the fact that the ANC has its support from different religions and we celebrate and support all beliefs within the broad ANC membership and support base. It has been the church and various religious organisations that when the ANC faced its hardest times, it was the church that prayed for our leaders.

“We urge all faith-based organisations to pray for a peaceful, free and fair election,” said Meokgo Matuba, secretary general of the ANCWL.

The president of the Women’s League, Bathabile Dlamini, is set to deliver the keynote address, while various sectoral representatives will endorse the ANC manifesto.
