Durban - The ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal has pulled out of a picket at the SABC offices in Durban after instructions from the national leadership.

The youth body, along with the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU), had planned the picket two weeks ago, but pulled out at the last minute on wednesday, citing instructions from the national leadership for its structures to desist from making any further comments on SABC matters.

“We are disciplined members of the ANC, we respect higher bodies of the ANC and therefore subjected ourselves to the discipline of the ANC,” league provincial secretary, Thanduxolo Sabelo, explained.

CWU provincial organiser, Manqoba Shabane, was hopeful the withdrawal of the ANCYL from the media briefing after the ANC barred the structures from commenting on the SABC, did not mean the youth body could not be part of the protest.

But, ANCYL spokesman, Mandla Shange, told the Daily News the youth body had pulled out altogether from Thursday’s picket.
