Johannesburg - The ANC Youth League bid farewell on Friday to its founding father, former president Nelson Mandela.

“We, as the ANC Youth League, call on the youth of our country to join in paying homage to our great leader,” it said in a statement.

“More than that, we call on our fellow young South Africans to live up to the revolutionary ethos of Madiba, who in his life realised the freedom he and his generation fought for.”

The ANCYL said it dipped its “revolutionary banner” and called on all young people to carry on Mandela's legacy.

“Lala ngoxolo Tata. Long live Madiba, long live.”
