Johannesburg - Limpopo ANC Youth League chairman Rudzani Ludere apologised on Monday for saying that education MEC Dickson Masemola should be stoned.

“Following a thorough political engagement with ANC Limpopo officials today, I apologise for saying that comrade Dickson Masemola must be stoned,” Ludere said in a statement.

“However, we still maintain our strong view that... (he) must either resign or be fired from the position he holds... (in) the Limpopo department of education because he has failed the people of Limpopo and embarrassed the ANC.”

Earlier the provincial executive committee called on Ludere to apologise and retract his statements.

“His statements were harmful not only to the person against whom they are made; but they also bring the organisation into disrepute and are dangerous to the unity and cohesion of the movement,” provincial secretary Soviet Lekganyane said in a statement.

Rudzani reportedly told people in Polokwane on Monday that they should unleash anarchy on Masemola.

“Even if he comes through government, you must just go there and disrupt and sing and even throw stones,” he said.

“Comrade Dickson Masemola has no platform in this province. If he wants to address the people, he must go and address them in KwaZulu-Natal, not here,” Ludere added.

He said Masemola was partly to blame for the delay in the delivery of textbooks in Limpopo schools.

The gathering was attended by axed ANCYL president Julius Malema. - Sapa
