Johannesburg - The ANC Youth League's acting president Ronald Lamola has said its leadership will quell the anarchy which characterised it last year, it was reported on Friday.

In an interview with the Sowetan, Lamola said the ANCYL was going to toe President Jacob Zuma's line, the newspaper reported.

“The issue is about how we communicate,” Lamola told the newspaper.

“We are breaking away from that anarchy. The league has to operate within its mother body. We will continue to be militant, but insults are (a) different (story) and are bad for the organisation,” he said.

Lamola visited Zuma at his home in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, after the African National Congress' conference in Mangaung in December.

The ANCYL has also held two meetings this year with ANC officials, including Zuma and secretary-general Gwede Mantashe.

Delegates at the ANC's conference resolved that the incoming national executive committee meet the ANCYL to sort out their issues.

In his organisational report at the conference, Mantashe said the ANCYL was acting in a similar way to forces which were against the party.

Lamola told the Sowetan he agreed that the ANC had to decide on the ANCYL's future based on the conference resolution.

“We will respect any decision. No one will fight any decision,” he said.

Lamola said the ANCYL was in the process of restoring its dignity and rebuilding its branches.

“This process will not happen overnight. We don't want a youth league of someone but a youth league of the ANC,” Lamola said. - Sapa
