Durban – The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in KwaZulu-Natal says it will organise a picket at the Sodwana Bay Guest House if the owner doesn’t reverse his decision to not accept blacks.

An email from the guesthouse caused outrage this week when the alleged owner, André Slade, turned a prospective black client away, saying the establishment no longer accommodated “blacks or government employees”.

During a telephonic interview with The Star, Slade said the establishment worked within God’s law, not the Constitution.

In a statement released on Friday, the ANCYL said it condemned the policy as racist and that it stood “directly opposed to the basic ethos espoused by the constitution which promotes racial equality”.

“We call upon the owners of this guest house to reverse this decision or face the full might of the youth of our country. The youth league will not tolerate any discrimination of a people based on the colour of their skin.”

The statement further said that the establishment must conform to the rules of the country or “close shop”.

The ANCYL said it would not allow a racist establishment to exist after more than two decades of democracy.

“The Youth League will therefore march to stage a picket at the guesthouse in order to force its management to reverse its decision. A racist establishment will not operate in this country.”

The league said it also noted the silence of political parties like the Democratic Alliance, which had not condemned the action, as this suited their “racist agenda”.

However, DA leader Mmusi Maimane had already condemned the post on Thursday, and urged the human rights commission to fast track investigations into the establishment, which it has since confirmed it is undertaking.

In an online blog post (Where To From Here, The Book of Revelation 10) filled with fringe Christian conspiracy theory rantings, Slade called Maimane a “beast” and “little bastard”.

He also called the Democratic Alliance the “New World Order representative for South Africa since the ANC/Zuma deserted the World Bank by running to China (BRICS). They bought South Africa’s debt from the UN World Bank. Mmusi Maimane is their new pawn…”
