Bloemfontein - Free State premier Ace Magashule must appoint his new executive council immediately as there is a lot of work to be done in the province, the Democratic Alliance said on Tuesday.

“Premier Ace Magashule must get off his laurels and appoint his new executive council immediately. We have a lot of urgent work to do,” DA Free State caucus leader Roy Jankielsohn said in a statement.

“A week after… Magashule assumed office he is yet to announce to the people of the Free State his new provincial government.”

Magashule was re-elected premier for a second term last week.

“We are concerned that this delay will further exacerbate serious problems within the provincial departments of health and education,” said Jankielsohn.

“It will also negatively affect numerous government programmes with unnecessary delays.”

He said the people of the Free State were trapped in a cycle of poverty with the highest unemployment rate in the country and a growing dependency on government grants. - Sapa
