Pretoria -The Seriti Commission of Inquiry into the 1999 arms deal ordered whistleblower Richard Young on Tuesday to hand over documents it needed.
Commission spokesman William Baloyi said while the draft of the order was raised during the commission's sitting on Monday, Young was officially handed the order on Tuesday.
He had until Monday to produce the documents. They had to be produced in electronic format, on an electronic storage device, and be clearly labelled and classified as “top secret”, Baloyi said in a statement.
The commission was postponed on Monday to give Young time to prepare the documents.
The SABC reported that evidence leaders had battled to get their hands on documents from Young, who laid charges with the Hawks in 2009. He was believed to have 15 000 documents, some of which could compromise the commission and certain witnesses.
The commission, sitting in Pretoria and headed by Judge Willie Seriti, is investigating allegations of corruption in the multi-billion rand arms deal.
