Addis Ababa - African Union commission chief Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said Wednesday she would stay on in her post, dismissing reports she was standing down to represent the ANC in parliament.

“I have no intention of not finishing my term,” she told reporters at AU headquarters in Addis Ababa.

“I am a member of the ANC, I've always been and I'll die a member of the ANC, so they are free to say whatever they want and to make their own pronouncement, but I will finish my term if I'm still alive here in the AU.”

Dlamini-Zuma, a former foreign minister and ex-wife of President Jacob Zuma, took the top job in the 54-member AU bloc in 2012.

But she refused to be drawn on whether she would run again for the AU post when her four-year term ends in 2016.

“I was elected for one term, and I don't cross bridges before I come to them,” she said.
