Be responsible, famers tell ANCComment on this story
The ANC should heed calls by religious leaders and big business to take responsible decisions in Mangaung, the Transvaal Agricultural Union said on Wednesday.
“The ANC should reach political maturity and realise that it has a responsibility towards all... as government it should accept accountability and face economic realties instead of pursuing failed ideologies to the detriment of the country,” said Tau-SA president Louis Meintjes.
The ruling party's elective conference is set to take place in Mangaung next week.
The union said it supported calls from business, banks, and religious leaders, who urged the ruling party to take careful policy decisions at the conference.
Decisions regarding land reform, which might not take into consideration the economic realities, could create irreparable damage, said Meintjes.
“If the delegates at Mangaung enjoy the abundance of food provided for their consumption, they may as well spend a thought on whether the wrong decisions regarding land and agriculture may not result in a shortage of food in five years time, when the next conference convenes.” - Sapa
